Torina, while not being my first pick for female character, is fascinating. Both end up on more different pathways than they could ever have imagined, before ultimately finding a way to unite the facets of themselves and save several kingdoms from ruin.Īs I had remembered, the character arcs are one of my favourite things about this book. Despite this, the two end up with a strong childhood friendship until dark plots wrench Torina’s happy life apart. The Seer and The Sword is a YA fantasy story following Torina, a stubborn princess whose father unknowingly gifts her with a seer stone, and Landen, a prince whose lands were conquered by Torina’s father. I have, for the longest time, held up Landen from Victoria Hanley’s The Seer and The Sword as my ideal but it had been so long since I had read it… A day later, here I am with a review! Naturally the post started filling up with comments about Mr Darcy (genuinely, why?) but it got me thinking about my own choice. I was on Twitter the other day (I’ve been spending a lot of time there recently… tangentially related to research, I swear!) when someone tweeted the question “Who is your ideal man from literature?”.
